More about our Part Seasoned Softwood

We are frequently being ask by our customers to produce a part seasoned log which allows them to finish seasoning at home. This is ideal if ordered in the summer months as they can be purchased cheaper over Kiln dried logs. This is beneficial when it comes to the winter and the colder weather as your part seasoned logs will be ready to burn from a natural drying process. Subsequently they are better for the environment as no heat / energy is used to dry the log and they come cheaper to you the customer. Some of our customers prefer this as they enjoy home seasoning their wood. So great for the environment and for those on a budget.

Our Part Seasoned Logs are delivered to you with a moisture content of approx. 30 to 40%, which can vary depending on when the logs are bought,  the summer or the Winter months. After Seasoning, your log should be perfectly burnable at a moisture content of approx. 25%.

The softwood we use for our Part Seasoned Softwood Logs are mainly ‘Larch’. Larch is one of the densest softwood around making it ideal for producing a long-lasting burn. Once you have seasoned the logs, we are confident that we have produced the best Part Seasoned Softwood Logs available in Cornwall, if not the country.

Our Part Seasoned Softwood Logs are grown and harvested locally in Cornwall, they are also Split and Netted locally on our premises located in Wadebridge.

Logan’s is member of the ‘Made in Cornwall’ scheme which showcases the best of Cornish-made products and we think is a good representation of our reputation within the industry.

Starting your Log Fire

Although many people burn with just softwood, we often recommend our customers start their log fires with softwood logs and then move onto Hardwood. This will ensure a longer lasting fire, while allowing you to light your stove or appliance with ease.

We also recommend using a healthy bed of kindling to start your fire and our Natural Flamers to get thing going. Purchasing a moisture meter is also advisable if you are seasoning your logs at home. This will allow you to keep the moisture level checked and you will know when your logs are ready for burning.

Why you should never burn wet wood

Burning Wet Logs may appear cheaper but can be very harmful to your Fireplace and Chimney. If you burn a wet log, you’re basically burning off the water contained in the log before the log can light properly. This can leave heavy residue (Tar) in your Flue, Chimney and Appliance that can build up to dangerous levels over time. Inevitably resulting in chimney/flue fires in your home.

  1. Rated 5 out of 5

Just like to say this wood was good value for money, it is a bit wet like you say, left it next to my log burner for a few days, it then burns really well, good value.

  2. Rated 4 out of 5

Very good product for the price, the wood was still quite wet, but then, that’s what we paid, will keep them in our wood store to dry out, will be ready for next year, thank you, will buy again
