The firewood of choice
Ash hardwood has long been the firewood of choice over the centuries. With the increase of imported ash products, such as Boats, Axes, Chairs etc, the Ash tree has become somewhat redundant, resulting in a surplus of this fantastic tree variety. Thankfully Ash is making a comeback as the go to wood for burning in Modern Stoves, Open Fires and Cookers.
More about our Ash Hardwood
Logan’s Kiln Dried Ash Logs burn extremely hot and clean with a bright and attractive flame. The low moisture content of this hardwood also helps with keeping your stove glass, flue and Chimney clear from tar residue, as well as being easier to light than other hardwoods.
Our logs are loaded and checked by our Kiln Manager for the perfect moisture level daily. We kiln dry the logs to an average moisture content of 8%. We then store them in our barn and allow the logs to re-hydrate to an ambient moisture level. Depending on the time of year, this should be approximately 15 to 20%. This method has been proven to make the logs burn hot and produce a very long last burn, with maximum heat output and little ash residue.
Our Ash is Grown in a large Cornish estate that is currently being cleared and re-planted. All our wood is sourced from sustainable forests so you know that by purchasing logs from us, you are supporting the Cornish community.
Why you should never burn wet wood
Burning Wet Logs may appear cheaper but can be very harmful to your Fireplace and Chimney. If you burn a wet log, you’re basically burning off the water contained in the log before the log can light properly. This can leave heavy residue (Tar) in your Flue, Chimney and Appliance that can build up to dangerous levels over time. Inevitably resulting in chimney/flue fires in your home.
The Kiln Drying Process
Our Kiln Dried Ash Hardwood Logs are dried to approx. 15 to 20%. This enables them to light quickly and give off an incredible amount of heat. Burning Kiln Dried Ash Hardwood Logs will save you money because you will be burning less wood, filling your appliance less frequently and producing more heat per log over cheaper alternatives. It will also help to keep your Stove Glass, Chimney and Flue system free from tar build-up.
